The Korean drama I'm going to introduce today is 'Dr. Cha', which ended last week.
Probably all over the world, but medical dramas are a very popular genre in Korea.
However, the drama, which enjoyed tremendous popularity with an 18% viewer rating in the last episode, is a bit unusual. Although the main character is a doctor and there is a story of caring for and treating patients while working in a hospital, it is not a medical drama.
According to the PD's intentions, the drama has no commentary or subtitles for any medical term. Nevertheless, the story is very pleasant and interesting. It was a difficult attempt for a story of surgeons and residents, but it was a good success.
Uhm Jung-hwa, the best dance singer and actor in the past, who is 54 years old, proved that she had the best box office power as a middle-aged actor due to the drama.
Also, Kim Byung-chul, who starred as Uhm Jung-hwa's husband, completed a mean but cowardly character with his best acting skills. Several supporting actors contributed to the drama's success, but Kim Byung-chul is definitely the first contributor.
In fact, the male lead role (Seo In-ho) was given a chance only after several star male actors refused. It's hard to get the most attention and it's easy to be criticized... It wasn't a very attractive role. However, Kim Byung-chul's choice, who played a man who was in a mess between the two women with lively acting, was the best in the end.
The first half of the drama is very cheerful. Cha Jung-sook, who received a liver transplant due to her health, feels desperate for her husband's poorness. Graduating from medical school was just a long time ago... Cha Jung-sook, who lived as an ordinary full-time housewife and was satisfied with her life raising children, changed her mind and challenged the professional course again.
The first half passes by, comically depicting the process of struggling at the age of late 40's and living in a hospital with colleagues who are as young as their children. In the second half, husband Seo In-ho's double life endangers the family's life and raises tension.
Choi Seung-hee, who never gives up his lingering feelings for Seo In-ho until the end, and Roy Kim, another surgeon who hovered around her unconditionally because he liked Cha Jung-sook in the midst of it. They are the contributors to comical dramas that can lead to political drama.
'Dr. Cha', who beat the traditional "Master Romantic" series among Korean dramas and achieved the top spot in ratings. It ranked fourth among JTBC dramas, and I think it will be remembered for a long time for the time being. It's on Netflix, so if you want to laugh while watching a comic Korean drama pretending to be a medical drama, please choose.
